The North Carolina Aquarium is a bit farther south, but still within walking distance. A little farther down the road is the end of Highway 421 and the The Fort Fisher-Southport Ferry. The ferry ride is a lot of fun and the historic town of Southport is gorgeous with its art galleries, delicious food, and interesting boutiques.

This unique area is also one of the best for catching a variety of fish either from the Kure Beach Pier or surf fishing in your own front yard!

I chose this particular unit at Ocean Dunes for my hideaway because it is EXTREMELY SPACIOUS AND PRIVATE with lush landscape surrounding the house creating peacefulness and beauty. No one walks up your steps unless they are coming to your door! I can see and hear the ocean from my perch in the beautifully appointed master bedroom but at the same time experience a feeling of being nestled into the mature greenery. It is a perfect spot to rest, relax and restore body, mind, and spirit! The interior is cozy with art in every room, live plants, and even a lending library except for the cookbooks for your use in the kitchen. I even keep fresh organic herbs and spices for my guests’ use. The main floor has a half bath, great room, dining room, wet bar and kitchen with extra seating at the bar. The two bedrooms are upstairs each with its own bathroom. There is a walk-in closet in master suite with plenty of storage. A cheerful gas log fireplace in a soaring 20 foot wall with a lovely oil painting above greets you as you enter your front door. The luxurious, very comfortable couches and rich marble tables are quietly elegant and a perfect nest to watch your flat screen 37″ HDTV with simple-to-use built-in DVD. Choose from our large movie library or watch cable TV. Better yet, it’s the ideal spot to just peacefully sit and unwind in front of the fire.

Central air conditioning makes summers cool although seldom needed in these Blue Ridge Mountains. Just past the living room is the eat-in kitchen, pretty powder room and laundry area.

The quietly elegant master suite will embrace you in rich restful comfort. You will feel like you’ve been transported to a beautiful spa! Feel pampered by the ultra plush King Bed with sumptuous bedding & gorgeous headboard, beautiful marble top tables & dresser with exquisite mirror, lovely décor, tiled floors with area rugs, and a romantic love seat for relaxing and watching your television with DVD/VCR. The generous windows with view of the lovely grounds offer plenty of natural light. In addition, this generous-size king suite offers a large walk-in closet and private bathroom with a gorgeous tile shower.

GUEST BEDROOMS WITH QUEEN BEDS:
The two guest bedrooms with rich hardwood floors will spoil you with luxurious queen beds, 400 count sheets, cloud soft blankets and elegant comforters. The beautiful furniture and décor in these rooms are pleasing to the eye and spirit. You’ll sleep well here! Just up the hallway is a large second bathroom done in rich color tones with tile shower/bath combination and fat fluffy towels. By the way, there is plenty of hot water with our two new 50 gallon water heaters and we have all new plumbing throughout!

VERY CHILD FRIENDLY!:
For children, there is an indoor brightly colored playroom filled with stuffed animals, kids’ books & games, soft blankies and a comfy twin bed with an outrageously soft plush comforter. Outside, there is an extensive cedar playground set with swings, 12’ spiral wave slide, climbing wall with handholds and knotted rope, picnic table and fort with covered roof. For babies, we have a sturdy oak crib & bedding, Play-N-Pack Play yard, baby bath tub, sturdy baby stroller, high chair and more!

OUTDOOR AREAS:
You will be captivated with all private the outdoor space! There are decks with plenty of tables and chairs, a luxury 6 person hot tub featuring 54 jets with 3 powerful motors, a 24 foot above ground swimming pool that is 4 feet deep (with child safety gates), an extensive children’s playground with swings, slide, fort, climbing wall, kids’ picnic table, and a large level lawn area for running and playing. The back of our cottage borders a 22 acre forest and the side yard borders a 14 acre meadow where you might meet our neighbor’s horses as they graze across the fence. It’s hard to believe you are only 2 miles from the Interstate in this secluded enchanted oasis!

Right now it’s all decked out for Christmas, and you’ll love snuggling in front of the satellite TV with the warm glow of the gas stove. In warmer months Smoky View Cabin is ideal for those who want to white water raft – Smoky View Cabin is just minutes away from the Nantahala Outdoor Center and is also close to the Nantahala Village. The kitchen is fully equipped and the table seats six. The master bedroom has a Queen bed, and the second bedroom has a pair of Twin beds. There is a sleeper sofa in the living room and also a rollaway bed to accommodate larger parties.

The cordial glow of logs and the natural ambiance the stone & iron gas stove provide will make the Smoky View Cabin feel like you’ve gone over the river and through the woods to the classic cabin of your dreams.

The dazzling mountain view can be enjoyed on the front deck or from the comfort of the porch swing on the screened porch. The hot tub is waiting year round for you to relax and enjoy the mountain vista through sunrise, sunset, or starry nights. The picnic table is great for dinners al fresco.

Smoky View Cabin is moments away from the Nantahala Village with a day spa, horseback riding, restaurant and bar. The Nantahala River is also just minutes away where you can enjoy white water rafting and kayaking. For colder months, enjoy the Nantahala Gorge Canopy Tours, or hiking at nearby Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest.

Bryson City is less than fifteen minutes away and offers several entrances to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, including a scenic drive down the “Road to Nowhere” where you can view Fontana Lake in the distance or enjoy a hike through the tunnel at the end of the “Road to Nowhere”. Deep Creek is also at the Bryson City Entrance and has water tubing in warmer months, and hiking to waterfalls year round. The closest grocery stores to Smoky View Cabin are in Bryson City. Bryson City is also home to the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad offering rides through the Smoky Mountains for all ages to enjoy.

Cherokee is less than half an hour away and has museums, many Native American themed shops, the closest movie theater, and Harrah’s Cherokee Casino with restaurants, gambling, concerts, and more.

White-water rafting in the warmer months is just a short trip to either the Nantahala Gorge in the West or the Tuckasegee River in the East.

Visit Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation – just twenty minutes away. In Cherokee, NC, you will find craft shops, museums, the Cherokee Phoenix Twin Theaters, and Harrah’s Cherokee Casino. The Cherokee Entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park offers hiking, a visitor’s center with a live farm, and access to the TN side of the National Park. Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are just a scenic drive through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for day trips.
